Title: Manager, Performance Improvement

Dept: Performance Improvement

Location: UC Health Business Center

Shift: Day

Hours: Full Time

Primary Purpose: Lead the creation and use of the UC Health Way, building LEAN philosophy, methodology and tools into the fabric of everyday work across UC Health. This position is a key front line leadership role. Individuals will need to balance Education, Projects and Recognition to create the safest, highest quality, highly satisfying and efficient patient care, while growing the UC Health staff. The goal is to create a self-sustaining, self-improving system of care.

Education: Create and deliver education through a variety of channels including but not limited to: Classroom settings, simulations, JIT, online, written and projects support (learn while doing).

Projects: Coach teams to use lean philosophy, methodology and tools while obtaining tremendous results.

Recognition: Help to create a management structure which recognizes results obtained using appropriate methods.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable and excellent at organizing data collection and use, coaching teams, teaching lean concepts and growing others to drive tremendous and transformative change. They will help to create the UC Health way.


Knowledge and Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree, minimum required in clinical, engineering, business or related field. Master's degree, preferred.

License and Certification: LEAN/Toyota Production System Experience and/or formal training desirable

Data Management formal training desirable.

Years of Experience: Work experience as an operational leader (supervisor, manager, etc.) is highly desired. Three to five years equivalent experience, minimum required. Six to ten years, preferred.

Required Skills and Knowledge: The most important background for this position is a history of using Lean to make actual improvements. 3-5 years at a minimum with more being better.

In order to have organizational credibility a BS degree in a related field is an educational requirement. An advanced degree is desirable, but not essential.

Experience in the following software applications is required:
Spreadsheets (Excel, etc.)
Power Point
Word Processing (Word, etc.)

Must have detailed knowledge of Lean philosophy, methodology and tools. An excellent understanding of hospital organization and measurement is desirable.

Must present a professional manner, have good verbal/written communication skills; be able to maintain confidentiality of all data. Demonstrate ability to lead and coach teams with across a wide variety of skill levels (staff to Sr. Exec, technicians, nurses, physicians) as well as across the full spectrum of UC Health functions (Ambulatory, Hospital, Business, etc.)
